Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Chuldai is known as a left-wing figure who has in the past defended the secular elements in the city. Yet, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, the mayor set aside time to meet and farbreng with Tel Aviv shliach, Rabbi Yosef Gerlitzky.

At the farbrengen, Rabbi Gerlitzky said L’Chaim with the mayor and shared the Rebbe’s teachings about the significance of a birthday and the month of Elul. Rabbi Gerlitzky then bentched the mayor with arichas yamim, filled with health and Yiddishe nachas. He also expressed hope that the city of Tel Aviv would become a beacon of achdus and Ahavas Yisroel for the rest of Eretz Yisroel.

Mayor Chuldai was moved by the event and wished the participants that they would merit to attend a similar farbrengen again the next year.

The gathering was attended by senior officials and staff members from the mayor’s office, led by the mayor’s assistant, Attorney Mr. Segev Shavit, and shliach Rabbi Yitzchak Bir, head of Chabad Tel Aviv’s activities department.

At the conclusion of the event, Rabbi Gerlitzky blew the shofar, following the minhag of blowing the shofar in the month of Elul.
