Following a yearly tradition, despite some complications, there is again a Sukkah available to the thousands of visitors to Prospect Park on the Lincoln Rd. Lawns (right inside the Lincoln Rd entrance to the park).

Last year on Hasha’ana Rabbah the Sukah was vandalized and destroyed but despite the ensuing various obstacles, with much effort, the appropriate permit was obtained and a new Sukkah is now standing.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Reb Chanina Sperlin, a truly dedicated askan tziburi, and Reb Pinny Ringel, the assistant commissioner and Jewish liaison of the mayor’s Community Affairs Unit, for their dedicated effort and care to ensure that everything would work out with the help of Hashem,” organizers said.

Endeavoring to fill the very large shoes of their predecessors, Rabbi Yisroel and Devorie Botnick, and family, have spearheaded mivtzoim and Yom Tov activities, in the prospect Lefferts Gardens area of Brooklyn for the past six years. In recent years the neighborhood has seen tremendous growth and a developing interest in authentic Yiddishkeit.

At the local Tefillin booth there are always new acquaintances made, tefilin put on, Shabbos candles happily received, and in such close proximity to the park, hundreds of sheva mitzvos are distributed weekly.

“If you ever want to see “Elokus b’muchash“, the surfacing of the pintele yid that exists in each and  every individual, just set up a Tefilin booth of your own,” Rabbi Botnick said. “The world is literally thirsting for clear direction.”

The park Sukkah, though small, serves as a proud symbol of Yiddishkeit for the PLG community and is the only Sukkah available to the thousands of visitors that pass through this side of Prospect Park. Please feel free to make good use of it and of course help maintain its tidiness.
