Stoliner Rebbe Recalls Memories at Pinson Family Shiva

The Stoliner Rebbe visited the Pinson family in Eretz Yisroel during shivah for Mrs. Rochel Pinson ah, who passed at 102. Many years ago, he had first met the family, and they shared memories of her decades of mesirus nefesh in strengthening Chinuch and yiddishkeit across North Africa.

The Stoliner Rebbe, Harav Boruch Schochet, paid a condolence visit this week to the Pinson family in Eretz Yisroel, who are sitting shivah for their beloved mother, Mrs. Rochel Pinson AH, who passed away last week at the age of 102.

Mrs. Pinson, together with her husband, Rabbi Nissan Pinson AH, played a foundational role in building and strengthening Chabad activities and Jewish education across North Africa, with decades of tireless mesirus nefesh.

“Many years ago, the Stoliner Rebbe traveled to Tunisia and stayed with the Pinsons,” a family member told Anash.org. “He didn’t share with anyone who he was and wanted to remain completely anonymous.” The family member shared that this visit marked the beginning of a lasting connection, and the Stoliner Rebbe has since visited them on additional occasions.

During the shiva visit, the Pinson children shared memories of their illustrious mother and her extraordinary devotion to their chinuch and to rebuilding Yiddishkeit after leaving the Soviet Union. They recalled returning to Leningrad to visit their former apartment, which had since become a KGB office, where their mother pointed out the exact spot her father was arrested on the same night as Reb Chonye Marozov HYD, the Frierdiker Rebbe’s secretary, and how both were later shot and killed.

Before leaving the courtyard of their former apartment, Mrs. Pinson had turned to her children and said, “You should know, children, that if you continue on this path (of mesirus nefesh), you will be successful.”

Before leaving, the Stoliner Rebbe inquired about the children’s health and well-being and asked to hear where each of them is serving as the Rebbe’s shluchim.
