Shliach’s Publication Aims to Fulfill the Rebbe’s 1983 Suggestion

In honor of Beis Nissan, yom hilula of the Rebbe Rashab, and start of the nesius of the Frierdiker Rebbe, a new publication by Cambridge shliach Rabbi Reuven Leigh takes a close look at the Frierdiker Rebbe’s first ma’amar.

The maamer was the first maamer of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s leadership and was delivered at the end of shiva on 8 Nissan. The maamer is based on the last maamer delivered in public by the Rebbe Rashab at the Purim Seudah of that year.

When the maamer was prepared for publication in 5743/1983, the Rebbe made a number of fascinating edits to the introduction concerning the many changes and additions the Frierdiker Rebbe made to the original maamer of his father. The Rebbe suggested that with a ״לימוד מיוחד ועמוק״ it would be possible to appreciate the many novelties to be found in the Frierdiker Rebbe’s maamer.

“For that reason, I have tried to prepare an edition of the maamer where it is possible to identify the many changes and additions, and thereby begin to consider the innovations of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s version of the maamer,” Rabbi Leigh said.

“Bezras Hashem, I hope to prepare in the future an article with my own thoughts on some of these innovations,” he said.
