A year after a public outcry led Revel scooters to reverse their exclusion of Crown Heights, they are at it again, but this time neatly trimming out the Jewish sections of the community.

In December of 2022, many locals protested after Revel excluded Crown Heights from the ‘end ride’ zones. A petition launched at the time garnered over 400 signatures.

Some people speculated at the time that it may have been due to a situation at the time where discount codes were accidentally shared by the company and many people in Crown Heights rightfully took advantage of the opportunity, receiving hundreds of dollars in credit. Despite the glitch, Revel promised to honor the free codes until they expire at the end of the year.

A few months later, Revel reversed their decision, and Crown Heights was put back on the map.

But now, once again, Revel has cut Crown Heights out of their maps. This time, however, it only removed the major Jewish area, neatly cutting it out from all the surrounding areas.

“This is a real chutzpah, I have never seen something as blatantly exclusionary as this,” one Crown Heights residents shared with Anash.org.

Update: Revel responded to Anash.org with the following statment:

“The service area was temporarily adjusted during the severe weather based on official flood maps. The service area returned to its previous coverage as of 1pm yesterday.”

  1. That sounds like a good reason, but of all the places to exclude, this seems like the wrong choice. We had not so much flooding, compared to other areas nearby. They choice specifically the Jewish neighborhood, and not even past Lefferts, which is lower down than the rest of Crown Heights.
