As the US border opened earlier this week to vaccinated tourists, many Lubavitchers took the first opportunity to travel to 770 to mark recent simchas, including 12 bar mitzvah boys who received their customary first aliya in the Rebbe’s room in 770.

In order to accommodate everyone, the Torah was read five times. According to the baal koreh, this was a record-breaking number of leinings, with aliyos given to 12 bar mitzvah boys, 2 chassanim and 4 fathers who were naming their daughters, all in one day.

For months, tourists without US citizenship have been unable to visit the U.S. due to government restrictions. This travel ban was especially difficult for Lubavitcher Chassidim living abroad, who cherish their occasional visits to 770 and the Ohel as a chance to daven for themselves and their families and draw blessings and strength. When marking important life milestones, the desire to be near the Rebbe is even stronger.

Now that the border has opened to vaccinated tourists, many Lubavitchers took the first opportunity to ‘catch up’ for the occasions that they’ve missed and celebrate their belated simchas in 770.
