Rabbi Uri Mordechai Lipsch, a veteran mechanech from Bnei Brak who spread chassidus, led initiatives to promote Sheva Mitzvos, and more recently taught in a Talmud Torah in Kfar Chabad, passed away on Purim after an illness.
He was 58 years old.
Rabbi Uri Mordechai Lipsch was born in Kfar Chabad on Chof Elul 5726 to Rabbi Elazar and Rivka Lipsch. In his childhood, he studied at local educational institutions in Kfar Chabad and continued his education at a small yeshiva in Lod. After three years, he returned to study at the larger yeshiva in Kfar Chabad near his parents’ home, and later traveled for a year of study at the central Tomchei Tmimim Yeshiva at 770 – ‘Kevutza of 5747’.
After requesting the Rebbe’s Brachah, he remained to continue his studies at 770 for three additional years, during which he was ordained by the head of the yeshiva, Rabbi Mordechai Mentlik. He then traveled to Eretz Yisroel, where he married Sarah Shifra, daughter of Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Shmelka Segal.
Following the Rebbe’s directive, he established his residence in Bnei Brak. Alongside his many educational activities, he continued his Torah studies and rabbinical training, receiving a certificate for advanced Torah education from the Chief Rabbinate and a ‘Rabbinical Advocate’ certificate.
While still studying in Kfar Chabad, Rabbi Lipsch established a “Yeshivas Erev” for the children of Kfar Chabad. After his marriage, He began working formally in education and was appointed as an educator at a Talmud Torah in Bnei Brak, a position he held for eight years. Later, Rabbi Lipsch moved to the Torat Emet Talmud Torah in Yerushalayim, and from there went on to direct Nigleh at a Yeshiva in Kiryat Shmuel as well as teaching Kitah Gimmel in Nigleh. From the 5772 academic year, he served as a teacher for the seventh grade at the Talmud Torah in Kfar Chabad.
In addition to his work in education with children and youth, Rabbi Lipsch gave regular classes at a kollel Erev for Chassidut in Shikun Hey in Bnei Brak, and classes for women at the “Or HaChassidus” Institute. He also served for some time as a Rabbi at a Chabad Shul in Kiryat Herzog in Bnei Brak.
Rabbi Lipsch authored, amongst other books, a “Shulchan Aruch L’B’nei Noach” which serves as a kind of “Kitzur Shulchan Aruch” teaching all aspects of halacha for a ben noach. He was also very involved in teaching Inyonei Geula Umoshiach.
He is survived by his wife Sarah Shifra, and his children: Chana Mushka Pevzner (Crown Heights), Yocheved Cohen (Bnei Brak), and Malka Esther Weintraub (Bnei Brak), R’ Menachem Mendel Lipsch (Beit Shemesh), R’ Yitzchak Lipsch (Gilo), R’ Yehuda Lipsch, R’ Shalom Dov Ber Lipsch (Be’er Sheva), Shneur Zalman Lipsch, and Meir Shlomo Lipsch.
He is also survived by his mother, Rivka Lipsh, and brothers Rabbi Yitzchok Lipsh (Tzfas), Rabbi Yosef Lipsh (Chaifa), Rabbi Berel Lipsh (Nof Hagalil), and sisters Mrs. Chyena Zaltzman (Toronto, Canada), and Mrs. Etti Berkovich (Rosh Pina).
