Rabbi Shmuel Gelbstein, a beloved member of the Anash community in Kfar Chabad and longtime leader of the Perushim Chevra Kadisha in Yerushalayim, passed away suddenly in his home on Friday night, 15 Av.

Rabbi Shmuel Gelbstein, a beloved member of the Anash community in Kfar Chabad and longtime leader of the Perushim Chevra Kadisha in Yerushalayim, passed away suddenly in his home on Friday night, 15 Av.
Born in Yerushalayim, Rabbi Gelbstein was the son of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Gelbstein, and grandson of Rabbi Moshe Menachem Mendel Gelbstein, founder of ZAKA and chairman of the Chevra Kadisha – Perushim. Following in their path, he served for decades in key roles in the Chevra Kadisha, remembered for his devotion, humility, and many acts of chesed.
He was well known as a baal tefillah during the Yomim Nora’im at the Tzemach Tzedek Shul in Yerushalayim and was a dedicated mispalel at the Chabad shul on Rechov Chana. In recent years, he resided in Kfar Chabad, where he continued to be involved in community and chesed work.
Rabbi Gelbstein is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Tziporah Gelbstein, as well as his many children and grandchildren.
The levaya took place Motzei Shabbos, departing from his home in Kfar Chabad to the Shamgar funeral home in Yerushalayim, and from there to Har HaMenuchos, where he was laid to rest alongside his father.
