Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a longtime shliach of the Rebbe in Bondi Beach, Sydney, was murdered in a shooting attack on the first night of Chanukah, 25 Kislev, during a public Chanukah event at Chabad House Bondi Beach.

Rabbi Eli Schlanger, Shliach to Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, was murdered in a shooting attack during a public Chanukah event at Chabad House Bondi Beach.

He was 40 years old.

He served as a shliach of the Rebbe in Bondi Beach, Sydney, for eighteen years.

The attack occurred during a Chanukah celebration attended by hundreds of men, women, and children who had gathered to light the first candle of Chanukah by the beach.

Several weeks earlier, Rabbi Schlanger hosted a memorial evening at Chabad House Bondi Beach in memory of shluchim who were murdered, including Rabbi Gavriel and Rivki Holtzberg, HYD, in Mumbai, and Rabbi Zvi Kogan, HYD, in the United Arab Emirates.

He is survived by his wife, Chayale (née Ulman), and their children, including a two-month-old baby.

He is also survived by his parents, Rabbi Binyomin and Dobra Schlanger; his siblings, Rabbi Shmuli Schlanger, Baruch Schlanger, Chanie Drizin, Dena Gansburg, Tzippy Kastel, Perela Goldhirsch, Sorala Hayes, and Shaina Joseph.
