R’ Menachem (Manny) Dworcan, a founding member of the Lubavitch community in South Africa, passed away on Shabbos, 13 Elul, 5781.

R’ Menachem (Manny) Dworcan, a founding member of the Lubavitch community in South Africa, passed away on Shabbos, 13 Elul, 5781.

He was 75 years old and passed away from complications from Covid-19.

R’ Menachem (Manny) was a giant of a man and Founding Member of the Lubavitch community in South Africa.

Beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, he was an Emesdik Yid who only wanted to do Mitzvos perfectly.

He was an exemplary Machnis Orech and a model Baal Tzedakah. Did so much Chesed quietly – that even his family didn’t know about.

R’ Dworcan was a founding member and lifelong Committee Member of Torah Academy Day School. He was a committee Member of Chassidim Shul and then Torah Academy Shul.

He established and ran the Chassidim Shul Gemach – giving out loans to all who needed. He also established a Sefer Torah Gemach to ensure that every Chabad House started in South Africa would have a Sefer Torah.

His communal activities went far beyond South Africa. He purchased the house of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel in Chevron so that it wouldn’t fall into Arab hands.

He is survived by his wife Marion (Miriam) Dworcan and their children: Ari (and Raizy) Dworcan – Montreal, Canada, Dani Dworcan – Krugersdorp, South Africa, Gabi Wineberg – Johannesburg, South Africa, Estie (and Boruch) Talberg – Ramat Bet Shemesh, Israel, Sarah (and Tzvi) Schechtman – West Bloomfield, Michigan, Levi (and Sarah) Dworcan – Lauderhill, Florida Mingy Dworcan – Brooklyn, New York, Yossi (and Sarah) Dworcan – Palm Beach, Florida

He is also survived by his brothers, Henry Dworcan – Johannesburg, South Africa, and Anthony Dworcan – Perth, Australia.
