The Yeshivas Kayitz of Tomchei Tmimim Queens, situated in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, held a live shechita demonstration for its talmidim. Rabbi Eliahu Ezagui, the “international shochet“, came to give the presentation.

Rabbi Ezagui shared his experiences of shechita in Russia and other remote places around the world. He also gave a brief run-down of the halachos of shechita and bedika, as well as some unique things that Lubavitch does differently.

Three different animals were shechted: a sheep, chicken and duck. Throughout the entire process of the shechita and bedika, each step was thoroughly explained to the bochurim and they were shown the different parts of the animal as they pertain to the halochos.

After the shechita, the bochurim were also able to see firsthand the melicha process and then enjoy the meat with a nice BBQ.
