Playing with PlayDough on Shabbos?

Anash.org feature: Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, Rov of Anash in London, explores interesting Torah questions and halachic dilemmas including the area of the peyos, PlayDough on Shabbos, mechutenestes with the same name, and the bracha on crackers.

The following issues are discussed by Rabbi Raskin in this week’s episode:

  1. Please clarify the area to be left as Peios: [1]
  2. May one, after the Shabbos meal, separate the pieces of chicken from the remaining soup, in order to refrigerate and/or freeze them separately? [2]
  3. The Torah command to testify if you know vital information, does that apply only to a hearing in Beis Din? [3]
  4. May children play with PlayDough or Plasticene on Shabbos? [4]
  5. Is there any concern about the making of a Shidduch where the mothers of the man and the woman share the same first name? [5]
  6. A community is writing a Sefer-Torah and has advertised that whoever donates to the cause will be fulfilling the mitzvah of writing a Sefer-Torah. I was under the impression that this mitzvah is for each individual to do, not as a partner in a group. Am I wrong?[6]
  7. If women at home Friday night say שלום עליכם and אשת חיל – are they misguided? [7]
  8. In some circles, the bride gives the groom a ring too. Is this allowed?[8]
  9. The third chapter of the Shema includes the remembrance of our leaving Mitzrayim. I understand that this remembrance is a Biblical mitzvah. So, if I did not have in mind to fulfill this mitzva, do I have to read the remembrance of Yetzias Mitzrayim again?[9]
  10. Re. the brocho on crackers; does the Alter Rebbe rule different from other Poskim?[10]
