More than 250 people gathered for a Siyum Sefer Torah at Chabad of Plano, Texas in memory of Jerry Shechter who had been a regular and a supporter at Chabad. The Torah was donated by his wife Debbie and their son Binyomin Schechter of Crown Heights.
The Torah, which was completed by Rabbi Yitzchok Raskin from Machon Stam, had been prepared to complete on his first yahrtzeit, but due to Covid, it was postponed to this year for the second yahrtzeit.
“Our community celebrated an incredibly beautiful simcha,” said shliach Rabbi Menachem Block, “this beautiful tribute to Jerry and the celebration will certainly be a genuine source of comfort for the Schechter family.”
Joining the celebration were Rabbis Eli Block, director of Chabad at Legacy West in Plano, Texas, Sholom Block, director of Chabad at Allen & McKinney, Avremel Silver of the Mayanot Shul in Crown Heights, Moshe Silver, and Sharon Weiss.
