Over 1,900 People Hear Megilah in Johannesburg
This Purim, the bochurim of RCSA Yeshiva in Johannesburg took to the streets with their Tefillin, Megillos, and Mishloach Manos. They visited shuls, homes, offices, hospitals, old-age homes, and even read the Megillah for someone stranded at the airport.
This Purim, the bochurim of RCSA Yeshiva in Johannesburg took to the streets with their Tefillin, Megillos, and Mishloach Manos. They visited shuls, homes, offices, hospitals, old-age homes, and even read the Megillah for someone stranded at the airport.
By the time Purim was over and the numbers were counted up, the impact was remarkable: more than 90 Megillah readings took place, and over 1,900 people heard the Megillah who otherwise would not have had the opportunity. The bochurim were met with widespread appreciation, even being featured in the country’s Jewish newspaper.
Years ago, someone wrote to the Rebbe expressing concern about the future of Jewish life in South Africa. He described it as a “dwindling Jewish community”. The Rebbe refused to accept that claim, urging instead that efforts to strengthen Jewish life there be redoubled. Today, we see the results – the Rebbe’s Mivtzoim continuing to have such a tremendous success.
