New Yiddish Parsha Songs an Instant Hit

An initiative by Rabbi Levi and Mushky Zaltzman putting powerful lessons from the Parsha into a Yiddish song has attracted hundreds of parents and teachers who want to teach both Yiddish and chassidishe values.

A new initiative was started to put powerful messages and lessons from the Parsha into a Yiddish song for kids. The songs were written by Rabbi Levi and Mushky Zaltzman with the goal to cultivate a warmth and Chayus for Yiddishkeit into their children from a very young age.

The Zaltzmans said, “We felt like we were holding onto a treasure, and decided to have the songs recorded to share with others.”

The Rebbe spoke many times about the Kedusha of the Yiddish language, and these songs are the perfect way to bring Yiddish into the home and classroom. The music is being made by Mrs. Gitty Cohen, and the songs are recorded and sung by Shayna Altein in her recording studio. After many requests for a man’s recording, Rabbi Levi Lipinski joined the team, and in addition to recording created a worksheet for teachers to use when teaching the song.

What started as a small broadcast has now grown to a few hundred participants who receive the Niggun weekly. The feedback has been so incredible. A homeschooling Shlucha said, “This song has given me the ability to teach my kids Yiddish with such powerful lessons weekly”. One mother said “my kids wait all week for the next song to come”, and another “It’s so hard to find high-quality Yiddish songs these days, this is filling a great need.”

The project has now taken on a new stage. The songs are being recorded in a Polishe Yiddish as well, so they can be used and enjoyed in even more communities. One principal of a local Chassidishe school said, “The songs are a real masterpiece! They are so toichendik and beautiful. My teachers are so excited to use them.”
