The Jewish community of Montreal celebrated the completion of a new Sefer Torah written in R’ Yosef Yitzchok Greenglass, ahead of his one-year yahrzeit.
The new Torah was brought to Congregation Shomrim Laboker in Montreal amid joyous singing and dancing. Hakafos were followed by a seudas mitzva and Hakhel farbrengen led by renowned mashpia and lecturer Rabbi Yossi Paltiel.
R’ Yosef Yitzchak (Yossi) was son of Reb Volf Greenglass, the renowned mashpia who survived the Holocaust by fleeing to Shanghai, and went on to teach thousands in Tomchei Tmimim Montreal, after being sent there by the Frierdiker Rebbe.
R’ Yossi served as a fundraiser for the Yeshiva, and was an active member of the Chabad community there, always ready to share a chassidishe vort or a story from chassidim of generations past.
