Rabbi Ezra and Bracha (Meisel) Wiemer, have been appointed the new Shluchim to George Mason University in Virginia, home to hundreds of Jewish students.
Rabbi Ezra and Bracha (Meisel) Wiemer, together with their children, were recently appointed as the shluchim to George Mason University, a public research university in Fairfax County, Virginia, which is home to hundreds of Jewish students every year.
George Mason University is a public university situated in suburban Fairfax, VA, which has 1,250 Jewish students across its undergrad and graduate programs, in addition to faculty.
The new Chabad at George Mason University, an affiliate of Chabad Lubavitch of Northern Virginia, will be a true home away from home, in a time that college students are seeking connection more than ever.
The shluchim will work on developing and growing the programming at the University, operating a hub of Jewish life at George Mason University, that will feature all facets of a thriving Jewish community.
Among the programs that will be offered will be Shabbat and holidays from A-Z, including delicious meals and engaging prayer services, social events and programming, weekly Jewish classes on a vast array of topics, including JLI’s esteemed Sinai Scholars courses, one-on-one mentorship and guidance, and making kosher food readily available, as there is currently no kosher option available on campus.
“Among the 1,250 Jewish students at George Mason are a large number of incoming freshmen, who spent much of their high school experience on virtual classes. The new Chabad House will offer them a supportive community where they feel at home, as well as a one-stop-shop for all things Jewish,” Rabbi Weimer said. “We look forward to engaging with Jewish young adults, some of whom have never identified with their Judaism before, and to the weekly Friday night dinners, when dozens of students will relish in a magical and uplifting Shabbos environment.”
In order to start out on their Shlichus, the new Shluchim will need partners who appreciate the vital importance of this undertaking. Click here to donate to their Shlichus.
