Reb Hillel of Paritch, one of the great mashpiim of Chabad and a chossid of the Alter Rebbe, the Mitteler Rebbe, and the Tzemach Tzedek, was known not only for his tremendous strength in Torah and avoda, but also for his remarkable greatness in nigunim. He would say that “one who has no sense for nigun, has no sense for chassidus.”

One of the primary ways Reb Hillel educated the young avreichim whom our Rebbeim would send to him was by teaching them nigunei Chabad and how to sing them with true hergesh halev.

Many nigunim were sung at Reb Hillel’s table on various occasions, and according to tradition, ten of the nigunim sung today are attributed to him as his own compositions.

The Sefer Hanigunim writes about the nigunim of Reb Hillel: “Great was Rabbi Hillel’s power in nigun. The nigunim of Reb Hillel of Paritch are distinguished by their profound expression of deep, penetrating thought, bound together with heartfelt emotion and inward excitement.”

This nigun was also included in the recently released project “Davenen Mit a Nigun.”
