New Haven Menorah Lighting Marks 50 Years of Yeshiva
Hundreds of men, women, and children gathered in New Haven for the annual menorah lighting and parade organized by the talmidim hashluchim, marking 50 years since the Rebbe sent the first shluchim to the city in 5736.
Hundreds of men, women, and children gathered in New Haven for the annual Central Chanuka Lighting of New England, celebrating the message of pirsumei nisa and the Rebbe’s call to illuminate the public domain with the light of Chanuka.
At the opening of the event, organizers referenced the recent incident in Sydney, emphasizing the Rebbe’s directive that the response to darkness is to increase in light, strength, and visible Jewish pride. The mayor addressed the gathering, noting the positive and longstanding impact of the shluchim and the Jewish community on the city.
In light of the current climate, the event was held under heightened security in coordination with local authorities, ensuring a safe and dignified celebration. Following the lighting, the traditional Chanuka Light Parade made its way through the streets of New Haven, spreading the light and joy of Chanuka.
The event was organized by the Rebbe’s shluchim of Beis David Shlomo of New Haven, marking 50 years since the Rebbe sent the first shluchim to the city in 5736 (1976). The lighting received broad coverage from local media outlets.
