At a meeting in Crown Heights, Israel’s Minister of Heritage Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu announced the establishment of a new, innovative center honoring the Rebbe’s legacy.

A special meeting in Crown Heights with the Rebbe’s secretary and chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, Israel’s Minister of Heritage Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu announced the establishment of a large and innovative center honring the Rebbe’s legacy in Eretz Yisroel.

The event took place on the night of the 27th of Adar at the home of house Rabbi Dovid Fischer and was attended by Rabbi Moshe Shilat, director of Chabad for Youth in Eretz Yisroel; Rabbi Chaim Shaul Brook, director of Lahak Hanachos, and other prominent activists.

Those at the meeting noted that Chof Zayin Adar is the date of the second yechidus of Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu a”h, former Chief Rabbi of Israel and grandfather of the minister, with the Rebbe. On this second visit, he was accompanied by Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Avraham Shapiro. After this yechidus, the Rebbe edited the transcript of the discussion, and it was published with the Rebbe’s approval.

Rabbi Brook shared some fascinating stories and memories from that yechidus and the ensuing days.

Rabbi Krinsky told about what happened in the Rebbe’s room after the famous ‘Chanukah Live’ satellite broadcast in 5752, during which Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu addressed the broadcast while standing at the Kosel.

The host, Rabbi Fisher, thanked Minister Eliyahu for the exciting news about the new center honoring the Rebbe, and promised to help with the project, along with others, to do whatever it takes to bring the idea to the finish line.
