Mrs. Shternie Vogel, a shlucha from Postville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Shvi’i Shel Pesach, 5782, after suffering from an extended illness.
She was 55 years old.
Shternie was born to Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov. After her marriage to Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, the couple moved to Bogotá, Colombia, where they served as shluchim for seven years.
They later moved to Postville, Iowa, where they served as the first shluchim to the area.
Mrs. Vogel served as the secretary of the Chabad school for decades. She was known for her love of the students, and for her dedication to the school.
She also served as the mikvah lady for Postville for many years, taking care that the mikvah was kept to the highest standards.
She is survived by her parents Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov, her husband Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, and their children Chaya Risa Simmons, Aizik Vogel and Mendel Vogel.
She is also survived by her siblings Rivky Stillerman – Crown Heights; Faigie Gurkov Hilel -Montreal; Malkie Junik – Crown Heights, Mendy Gurkov – Montreal; Levi Gurkov – Oceanside, NY; Nechama Dina Sirota – Nachalat Har Chabad, Eretz Yisroel; Meir Gurkov – Pomona, NY; Eliezer Gurkov – Pomona, NY; Chaya Gurkov – Montreal.
The levaya will take place on Sunday, passing 770 at 3:00 PM. Kvurah at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 4:00 PM.
Shiva will be at 507 Crown St. (between Kingston and Albany).
