Mrs. Devorah Butman, longtime shlucha of the Rebbe in Tel Aviv, and mother of Mrs. Michla Segal of Crown Heights, passed away on Shabbos, 10 Nissan, 5783.
Mrs. Butman was the daughter of Reb Shmerel Gurary and Mrs. Chaya Shaina Michla (nee Shneider). Her father was a renowned chassidishe businessman who supported many Chabad mosdos and gave large sums to the Rebbe. The family settled in Tel Aviv after immigrating from Russia.
In 5717, she married Reb Sholom Ber Butman sheyichye, who is today a elderly chossid, mashpia and gabbai of the Nachalas Binyomin Shul in Tel Aviv.
During the years 5719 – 5728, the couple lived in Crown Heights, before moving back to Tel Aviv.
After their return, Mrs. Butman was appointed as head of Nshei Chabad in Eretz Yisroel, a position she held for decades.
In her role, she oversaw the massive growth of Nshei Chabad across Eretz Yisroel, and received much encouragement from the Rebbe.
She is survived by her children, Rabbi Yosef Yitchok Butman – Lod, Eretz Yisroel; Rabbi Eliyahu Yochanan Butman – Chadera, Eretz Yisroel; Rabbi Yehuda Butman – Ramat Hasharon, Eretz Yisroel; and Mrs. Michla Segal – Crown Heights.
She was predeceased by her son Rabbi Yisroel Baruch Butman, shliach to Naharia, in 5774.
The Levaya took place in Eretz Yisroel on Motzei Shabbos.
Shiva will take place at her home in Tel Aviv until Pesach.
