Mrs. Chaya Sarah Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), 82, AH

Mrs. Chaya Sarah Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), daughter of Rabbi Chaim Hillel Azimov, one of the leading Chabad chassidim in Paris, and wife of the renowned chossid Rabbi Adin Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), passed away on Sunday, Vav Tishrei.

Mrs. Chaya Sarah Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), daughter of Rabbi Chaim Hillel Azimov, one of the leading Chabad chassidim in Paris, and wife of the renowned chossid Rabbi Adin Even-Israel (Steinsaltz), passed away on Sunday, Vav Tishrei.

She was 82 years old.

Born into a prominent Chabad family, she was the daughter of Rabbi Chaim Hillel Azimov a”h, a tomim who worked for decades to strengthen Yiddishkeit in Paris, and a descendant of Rabbi Mordechai Posner, brother of the Alter Rebbe. In 5725 (1965), she married her husband, Rabbi Adin Even-Israel, and from then on stood faithfully at his side, supporting him in his groundbreaking Torah projects, including his monumental commentaries on Shas, Tanya, and Rambam.

She is survived by her sons, Rabbi Menachem Even Israel and Rabbi Amechaye Even Israel, and her daughter, Esther Plant.

She is also survived by her brother, Rabbi Moshe Nissan Azimov of Yerushalayim, and her sisters, Mrs. Hada Raizel Raskin (Morocco), Mrs. Esther Hadassa Matusof (Toulouse), Mrs. Devorah Markowitz (Sydney, Australia), and Mrs. Shterna Schanowitz (California).

She was predeceased by her brother, Rabbi Shmuel (Muleh) Azimov, the Rebbe’s head shliach to Paris.

The levaya will take place today, Sunday, at 5:00 PM, from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim, proceeding to kevurah near her husband on Har HaZeisim.
