A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of a South Beach shul, but police have since given the all-clear.
Miami Beach Police responded to Beit Chabad South Beach and the Lubavitch Educational Center on Alton Road and 12th Street around 7:40 p.m. on Friday evening.
Authorities stated that a rabbi alerted an officer after discovering an envelope in front of the building. The envelope had handwritten lettering that suggested a bomb threat, with the words “safe house” written on the opposite side.
As a safety measure, the synagogue was evacuated. Officers established a perimeter, temporarily closing Alton Road between 11th and 13th streets while diverting traffic.
7News footage showed bomb squad officers and K-9 units entering the building to thoroughly inspect the synagogue and the educational center.
At this time, police have not disclosed whether anything suspicious was found or if any arrests have been made.
The situation was resolved.
