Lubavitcher Rabbi Dovid Moya was sworn in as a chaplain for the US Navy on Wednesday by Lieutenant Levi Ceitlin, the first Lubavitcher in the US Navy, at the entrance to 770 in Crown Heights.
Joining them was Chaplain Major Dovid Grossman of the US Air Force Auxiliary.
A crowd gathered at the unusual sight of three men in military dress and uniform in front of 770, watching as they welcomed Dovid to their ranks.
Being sworn in is the culmination of an extensive application process. It marks the beginning of a service member’s career, during which they would then go to training and eventually serve full-time on a military base.
Following the official ceremony, the new chaplain joined his fellow military men and the gathered crowd in saying l’chaim, wishing him much success in his new position.
