A brand new display with the various tables the Rebbe used over the years to distribute dollars, will be opened at the Rebbe’s Library in honor of Chai Elul, which marks 30 years of the exhibition hall.

This Chai Elul, marks 30 years since the opening of the exhibition hall in the Rebbe’s Library above 770.
On the first anniversary of the seforim victory, on 5 Teves 5748 (1987), the Rebbe revealed plans to open a research library for the public. Since the library building was not yet built, librarians asked the Rebbe whether a limited collection should be opened in the existing space. The Rebbe’s written reply was, “It should be delayed and opened in the course of time, when the library will have suitable space.”
During the winter of 5750 (1990), as the construction was underway, they asked the Rebbe whether to hold an exhibition. His written reply was, “The time is not appropriate for the above.”
Following the building’s completion and renovation, and arrangement and cataloging of all volumes, manuscripts and archives, we feel this to be an appropriate and auspicious time to fulfill our obligation to open the Library and hold an exhibition.
Since the opening of the exhibition hall of the Rebbe’s Library on 18th Elul, 5754 (1994), various subjects for exhibitions were featured, switching the exhibition every year or two. In addition to the kisvei yad and seforim, various furniture items such as shtenders and chairs used by the Rebbe have been displayed.
In honor of the new year, the Rebbe’s Library will be showcasing the various shtenders and tables the Rebbe used over the years to distribute dollars each Sunday to the thousands of locals and travelers who came from near and far to receive a dollar and a bracha from the Rebbe.
Recent updates to the library have been the Frierdiker Rebbe’s Coat, a historic letter Reb Levik wrote to the public at the end of WWI, a display of unique historic Haggados from as early as the 1500’s, and the Rebbetzin’s Shabbos candles.
