Mrs. Janice (Gilda Riva) Lapine, a member of the Chabad community of Overland Park, KS and mother of the Lapine and Reiz families, passed away Thursday, 8 Cheshvan.
Mrs. Janice (Gilda Riva) Lapine, a member of the Chabad community of Overland Park, KS and mother of the Lapine and Reiz families, passed away Thursday, 8 Cheshvan.
She was 94 years old.
Janice was born in 5691 in Houston, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Erwin (Yisroel HaKohen) LaPine in 5710.
In 5725, Erwin’s job with the Ford Motor Company took them to Overland Park, Kansas, where they were among the earliest friends and supporters of Rabbi Sholom Ber and Bluma Wineberg, the Rebbe’s Shluchim to Kansas City. She is remembered as an active participant and memorable personality at Chabad programs and classes, even into her later years.
She is survived by her sons Chaim Dovid (Crown Heights) and Leland (Houston, TX) and daughter Pamela Reiz (Overland Park, KS), as well as by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Erwin in 5777, and by her brother Harry Simon this past summer.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, 9 Cheshvan at 1:00 PM at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Chaim Dovid LaPine and Pam Reiz will be sitting Shiva at 6900 W 100th St in Overland Park.

I didn’t even know her first name. She was Bubby Lapine to the whole community. A very vibrant and kind woman, she had the right wise words to say at every occasion. The beautiful family she raised is everlasting testimony to her gracious spirit. May her neshama rest in peace and she should be a gutte better for her family.
