ISIS Attack on Moscow Shul Thwarted in Russia

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the disruption of an ISIS-affiliated group’s plans to carry out an attack on a shul in Moscow.

On Thursday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the disruption of an ISIS-affiliated group’s plans to carry out an attack on a shul in Moscow. The group, located in Kaluga, 93 miles southwest of the capital, had intended to target Jews during davening.

During the arrest operation, the individuals engaged in a firefight with FSB operatives, leading to their elimination by return fire.

In the aftermath, authorities retrieved firearms, ammunition, and materials for creating a homemade explosive device. Footage from the Russian Defense Ministry’s news channel showed law enforcement inspecting a residence and discovering two dead individuals along with the seized weapons and explosives.

The FSB identified the perpetrators as belonging to ISIS’s Afghan faction. Consequently, the FSB’s Kaluga Regional Directorate has initiated a formal investigation under specific articles of the Russian Criminal Code that address terrorist activities.
