Moshe Sasonkin, a young Crown Heights bochur whose limbs were amputated as a baby, spent his summer inspiring others with Yiddishkeit and joy. Despite not having hands, he personally laid tefillin on others, as seen in this incredible clip.

Moshe Sasonkin, a young bochur from Crown Heights, spends his summers in Camp Simcha after an insidious virus ate at his extremities and caused him to have multiple amputations as a baby. Despite his challenges, Moshe is a happy and staunch boy. A proud Lubavitcher, Moshe spent his days at Camp Simcha using every opportunity to do Mivtzoim and spread Chassidus.
One lively counselor in camp, who wasn’t regularly seen at shul during davening, or laying tefillin, would always push off the request, Moshe shared in a conversation with Anash.org. Not deterred, Moshe kept asking and encouraging and eventually laid tefillin with him multiple times over the summer. Despite not having hands, Moshe was determined to do mivtzoim himself.
Aside from this staff member, Moshe offered every specialty staff member and guest whether they are Jewish and immediately offered to help them lay tefillin. He spent the summer discussing ideas of Chassidus with his friends and staff members, and inspired all those around him with his love of learning and joy in Yiddishkeit.
Chazal say that “Hillel obligates the poor,” since if Hillel could find time to study Torah despite his poverty, others should too. Moshe Sasonkin obligates us all to do more mivtzoim, since if he can do it despite his physical challenges and personal hardships, we can too.
