Help a Meis Mitzvah Have a Jewish Burial
A Jewish prisoner in Illinois was murdered by fellow inmates, and Rabbi Mendel Scheiman, shliach of Chabad of Carbondale and SIU and a local prison chaplain, is raising $1,200 to bring this meis mitzva to kevuras Yisroel.
In a deeply tragic turn of events, a Jewish prisoner in Illinois – known by his initials H.D. – was murdered by fellow inmates. After an extensive bureaucratic ordeal, his body has finally been released for a proper Jewish funeral, on the condition that part of the costs be covered by outside funds.
Rabbi Mendel Scheiman, shliach of Chabad of Carbondale and SIU and a local prison chaplain, is now raising $1,200 to ensure this meis mitzva receives a proper kevuras Yisroel.
While the prison is obligated to finance the burial and is indeed covering the bulk of the expenses, the additional $1,200 is needed to cover the costs of a fully kosher Jewish burial.
When donating, please have in mind דבורה לאה בת יבלחט”א ר’ לוי יצחק, whose yahrtzeit is today, ג אדר.
