Heartfelt Siyum and Farbrengen Marked Chai Elul

In an uplifting evening filled with warmth and inspiration, many Crown Heights residents joined for a siyum on Maseches Eiruvin and an invigorating Farbrengen in honor of the Chai Elul – the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe.

In an uplifting evening, filled with warmth and inspiration, many Crown Heights residents joined together in Tiferes Menachem- Rayim Ahuvim shul for a siyum on Maseches Eiruvin as part of the Toras Chaim program of Yagdil Torah and Merkaz Halacha, as well as an invigorating Farbrengen in honor of the Chai Elul-the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe.

Rabbi Hillel Raskin, an avid participant of the Torah Chaim program, concluded the Mesechta and delivered the Siyum. He also spoke how the Baal Shem Tov whose birthday we are celebrating, beside for being famous for his teaching Chasidus, would give over a Shiur Gemoro in Yidish (which was then the most spoken language) in a way that everyone was able to understand.

In the course of the Farbrengen, Rabbi Gedalya Oberlander, Rav of Heichal Menachem – Monsey, and the Director of Merkaz Halacha, emphasized the importance of Nigleh d’Torah, noting that among the world of Chasidus our Rebbeim were the most prolific in publishing Sefarim in Nigleh. He also talked about the great effect that learning Torah has on the person in his whole life, relaying what he heard from someone who had a family member who joined the program, and how he seems like “a new person”.

Merkaz Halacha, in partnership with Yagdil Torah, offer the Toras Chaim program to the community and will be starting Maseches Pesachim on Chei Hei Elul (though one can join at any point).

Toras Chaim has an easy to follow learning schedule which allows the entire Maseches Pesochim to be finished in about a year. Once a month a test is held on 10 dafim, and a bonus section of the test reviews previous dafim. Stipends are awarded to those scoring certain marks on each section independently.

“Its a program that gets you going,” organizers said. “Many have said they are learning much more since they joined.”

On these auspicious days concluding the month of Elul, and starting the new year with the month of Tishrei when it is the custom to take new hachlotos tovos for the coming year, it is the most appropriate that Chassidim strengthen fixed times for Limud HaTorah, here’s an opportunity for YOU to take part!
