Harav Shalom Povarsky, rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva Kol Torah in the Bayit Vegan neighborhood of Yerushalayim, passed away on Shabbos, 11 Teves, 5781.
He was 85 years old and passed away after contracting the coronavirus.
Harav Sholom Povarsky was born in Baranovitch, Belarus. He was the youngest son of the Harav Yehoshua Dovid Povarsky, Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevezh and author of Yeshuas Dovid. When he was four he moved with his parents to Eretz Yisroel.
Harav Shalom was a renowned talmid chacham and was known for his mastery of Talmud Yerushalmi, and served as the Chief Editor of of the Machon Hamaor edition of the Yerushalmi.
In recent years, Rabbi Povarsky frequently visited Crown Heights, where a son of his lives. During those visits, he was often seen in 770, where he was honored with aliyos and discussed Torah with those who approached him.
The levayah was held last night at Yeshiva Kol Torah. Kevurah took place at the Ponovezher Bais Hachaim in Bnei Brak.
His son Dov Povarsky lives in Crown Heights.
He will be sitting shiva at 282 Troy Ave.
8:30 am Shacharis, Mincha 4:30 pm, followed by Maariv.
