The event was emceed by the Shul’s gabbai R’ Yechiel Wilhelm, who began with the Hayom Yom and mentioned the connection between Lag Baomer and Rambam, as this years final study was 17 Iyar.
Rabbi Yosef Zvi Segal, Rosh Kolel of Tzemach Tzedek in Yerushalayim, was honored with making the Siyum. In his distinctive manner, Rabbi Segal elaborated on the last halacha of the Rambam and gave insight into the days of Moshiach. As one who has been dealing in chincuh for decades, he connected the words of the Rambam for direction on how to educate one’s children and concluded with a plea to parents to treat the children as diamonds and invest in educating them correctly.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schtroks, Maggid Shiur in the local Yeshiva, started the new cycle. He began his speech with an emotional deher that to learn Rambam on a daily basis as if one is on the same page of what the Rebbe is learning. He pointed out the great depth of the Rebbe’s sichos on Rambam and highlighted just a few short insights of the Rebbe on the first few Halachos of Mishna Torah.
Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor, head shliach to Thailand, who was in London for a few hours, gave an inspiring keynote address. Using real stories from his years on Shlichus, he impressed upon the assembled the notion that the Rebbe has already set everything in motion for us, we just have to want to be his able assistants.
Bentching was led by the Rov Rabbi Gedalia Lieberman, after which Rabbi Kantor continued to farbreng.
