Thousands of Chabad Chassidim gathered in Tel Aviv on Thursday night to celebrate a historic milestone in the world of Chabad journalism: the publication of 2,000 issues of the ‘Kfar Chabad’ magazine.

The Hebrew-language Chabad weekly magazine was established in 5740 and was widely considered the mouthpiece of Lubavitch in Eretz Yisroel. Over the years, the magazine received much encouragement from the Rebbe, who also gave many instructions to editor-in-chief Rabbi Aharon Dov Halperin regarding publication and content.

Coming out on a weekly basis, Kfar Chabad contained quality articles regarding Chabad history, current events examined through the lens of the Rebbe’s teachings, as well as sichos, letters from the Rebbe, and reports on Chabad activities throughout the world. Throughout the years, the magazine maintained the high standard of a chassidishe magazine.

The event opened with a special video presentation featuring veterans of the magazine’s editorial board, including the editor-in-chief Rabbi Aharon Dov Halperin, Rabbi Moshe Marinovsky, Rabbi Yitzchak Holtzman, alongside R’ Shalom Lavanhartz, R’ Noson Tzivin and R’ Menachem Gurevich. They reminisced about the history of the magazine and shared about the behind-the-scenes work in publishing the paper. Editor R’ Menachem Cohen told about the transformation of the magazine in the last decade and its expansion to new audiences.

After reading a letter of the Rebbe to the magazine on the occasion of its 500th issue, a historical film was screened titled, ‘The Rebbe and the Magazine.’ Senior staff of the publication, along with Rabbi Moshe Havlin, and Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Raskin, spoke of how important the magazine was to the Rebbe.

Next, singer Avraham Fried took to the stage and delivered an outstanding performance of electrifying Chabad niggunim. The crowd spontaneously rose to their feet and seamlessly merged into a Chasidic dance.

At the conclusion of the evening, the editors revealed plans for the publication of an English-language edition of the magazine, made possible thanks to the continual support of philanthropist R’ Yossel Gutnik, the Rebbe’s shliach for shleimus haaretz.
