Family and friends of Rabbi Avraham Lider gathered on Monday night at the Chesed Center to mark 30 days since his passing on the first night of Rosh Hashana.
Throughout the two-hour event, a continuous stream of individuals came in to pay their respects to Rabbi Lider and to share memories of this giant of chessed.
Over his many decades at the helm of the legendary Chessed organization, Rabbi Lider helped many thousands of Crown Heights residents and guests during their most challenging moments.
Crown Heights community physician Dr. Eli Rosen recalled the phone calls he would receive at any hour of the day or night from Rabbi Lider. Assisting another Jew was always his top priority, he said.
Other speakers related how they or their loved ones have been impacted by Rabbi Lider’s kindness. For some it was hospital visitation, for others it was connecting them with top doctors and specialists. It seemed as if for any problem Rabbi Lider had a contact.
In recent months during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Rabbi Lider spent hundreds of hours assisting coronavirus patients and their families. He also helped arranged numerous blood and plasma drives in the Crown Heights community to replenish blood banks which were at dangerous lows, and to have residents donate plasma to help coronavirus patients.
But Rabbi Lider’s work will continue on. The Lider family has announced that Rabbi Dovid Lider will assume the leadership of Ahavas Chesed and continue his father’s lifesaving work.
