This year, over 24,000 Jews participated in more than 100 public sedorim across the country, coordinated by the Federation of Jewish Communities in Ukraine and local shluchim.
These gatherings were particularly poignant, as even Ukrainian soldiers stationed on the intense eastern front received full Pesach provisions through special efforts led by Rabbi Yaakov Syniakov, who is responsible for the Federation’s operations. Rabbi Syniakov highlighted a first-time initiative of six sedorim held directly on military bases.
Additionally, 600 refugees and community rabbis are currently participating in Europe’s largest public Seder at a camp on the shores of Lake Balaton in Hungary, set up last year to accommodate those displaced by the conflict.
On the eve of the holiday, it was reported that, apart from the public sedorim, food packages including matzah, wine, and Haggadahs translated into Ukrainian had been distributed to 45,000 Jewish households across 169 communities, out of the 180 that existed before the war erupted. Each package contained handmade and machine-made matzah, wine, grape juice, a Seder plate, a cup, a Seder plate puzzle, holiday and Shabbat candles, and a detailed festival guide.
Rabbi Meir Stambler, chairman of the Federation, expressed his gratitude in a holiday eve statement: “From Ukraine, we wish all of Israel and all our supporters a happy and kosher Pesach. We hope and believe that we will celebrate next year in Yerushalayim!”
