Federal and local authorities in Florida arrested two Brazilian nationals on Shabbos in what officials describe as a “specific and imminent” plot to attack Chabad of South Orlando.

According to law enforcement sources, Janaina Toledo, 32, and Leonardo Corona Ramos, 42, were taken into custody after FBI agents and Florida police raided their hotel rooms in Orlando. The pair—who entered the United States illegally—are accused of operating under the direction of Tren de Aragua, a violent Venezuelan-based criminal organization known for extortion and contract killings across Latin America.

Investigators say the two had recently conducted surveillance of Chabad of South Orlando, a shul and school directed by Rabbi Yosef and Chani Konikov, and were in the advanced stages of planning an assault. During the raid, agents seized multiple forms of identification, encrypted communications equipment, and electronic devices believed to contain evidence of their plans.

The arrests followed intelligence uncovered by Project Veritas, whose undercover investigators reportedly obtained communications and financial records linking Toledo and Ramos to Tren de Aragua’s U.S. network. Law enforcement officials say this tip may have prevented one of the most serious terror incidents in Florida’s history.

Messages attributed to the suspects reveal chilling details of their intentions. In one exchange, Ramos supposedly wrote:

“Good morning, I visited Chabad, I have a good view of the place and it will work. I think six explosives will be enough.”
“I need the positions of where the money is inside.”
“We have to plan for next Friday—today we are not ready.”
“I can’t believe we’re so close to wiping out those damn Jews.”
“Janaina is still sleeping but as soon as she wakes up I’ll ask her to go to the storage room to get the materials to bring here.”
“I need to get the weapons quickly, even today. It seems like someone knows Janaina and I are here. I need to be careful. To be safe, I stored all our items in the storage room… But I need to make sure I’m safe here. I think someone is watching. Call me when you can.”

The suspects are currently being held at the Orange County Jail pending federal terrorism and trafficking charges.

Authorities continue to investigate the extent of Tren de Aragua’s activities in the United States, warning that the organization has increasingly used illegal migration to conceal its operatives.
