A family of 5 who were regulars at Chabad Russian Centre of Thornhill Woods, Ontario, were killed when their plane crashed in Nashville, Tennessee.
The single-engine plane crashed near Interstate 40 around 8 pm. The pilot had radioed a nearby airport and said they were experiencing an emergency engine and power failure. He requested emergency approval to land, then later said they weren’t going to make the runway. The plane crashed behind a Costco store, killing all on board.
The couple, Victor and Rima Dotsenko and their three children were members of the Chabad Russian Centre of Thornhill Woods, Ontario, under Rabbi Chaim Hildeshaim.
Victor, known for his warmth and Jewish pride, was a regular at the Chabad House, often stopping by to lay Tefillin. He was ready to lend a helping hand whenever necessary, and recently installed windows in the Shul. The family was a familiar presence on Shabbos and Yom Tov and at community events.
In a message to his community, Rabbi Hildeshaim wrote:
“With profound shock and deep sorrow, I learned about the tragic passing of the nicest people, members of our community, our dear friends, Victor and Rima, along with their three beautiful children in a plane crash.
“I had the honor of officiating their wedding, naming the 3 kids, having them over for Shabbat, holidays & community events.
“Victor installed the windows in the Shul and helped out any time needed.
“Victor was a proud Jew and would stop by the Shul often to put on Tefillin.
“In memory of these five precious souls, I urge everyone to perform a Mitzvah and engage in acts of kindness. Let’s honor their legacy by spreading goodness in the world.
“May their memory be a blessing and may we speedily merit the coming of Moshiach when all those that passed away will be united with us.”
