Exploring the Rebbe’s Vision for Lech Lecha
By exploring the sicha’s historical setting, the Rebbe’s handwritten edits, and related letters from that period, we can gain a fuller view of the Rebbe’s vision – guiding us to face life’s challenges with the clarity and conviction of Torah’s eternal truth.
By Rabbi Shmuel Wagner
What do the following have in common?
- A summer sicha from 5714 (1954), to bochurim embarking on Merkos Shlichus,
- A yechidus in 5718 (1957), for the supporters of Lubavitcher Yeshiva,
- A special farbrengen in 5711 (1950), held on the occasion of the nine-month anniversary of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s passing.
The 1st sicha describes the message of “Lech Lecha”.
The 2nd sicha defines the existence of the Jewish Nation.
The 3rd sicha shows the connection between bris milah and birth.
But somehow, these three distinct talks became the sichos in Likkutei Sichos Chelek Alef for Parshas Lech Lecha.
In our new shiur initiative, “Vision Unveiled”, we do not merely learn the weekly sicha of Likkutei Sichos Chelek Alef/Beis, we dig deeper to uncover the Rebbe’s vision being shared through the lens of the weekly parsha.
Through understanding the historical context of when the sicha was said, by analyzing the handwritten edits that the Rebbe spent so much time on, by comparing the lesson of the sicha to letters that the Rebbe wrote during that same era, we emerge with the bigger picture of the Rebbe’s vision that can guide us through life, handling any situation with the Rebbe’s clarity and conviction of Torah’s eternal messages.
Suddenly, these three separate sichos drive home one crucial point: a yid is not, and cannot, be stuck within the confines of nature. A yid is connected to Hashem through a suprarational bond, and that shapes the way the yid lives their life!
Join us in this week’s Lech Lecha journey, and experience the richness of Likkutei Sichos Chelek Alef like never before!
