[Continued from previous:] An additional lesson: When is a person’s social behavior proper and not influenced or biased by his self-love? When is one sure that whatever situation he’ll face or in whatever environment he may find himself, he will not stumble in matters of “Honor your father,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet”? Only if the foundation is, “I am Hashem, your G-d”, that these are commandments of Hashem, Who sanctifies us through them, and aren’t just dictated by intellect, will he not stray from the correct path. He will not be swayed by all persuasions of his intellect, will and desires, and he will walk securely on the path outlined for him in Hashem’s Torah; the Torah encompasses the entire life of man, from the moment of birth until his departure from this world, and shows him the way for a fulfilling life, with true and eternal happiness.

במצות שבינו לחברו כדבעי, בלי הטעי’ מפני אהבת עצמו, אימתי
