Dnipro Lawyer After Attack: ‘The Alter Rebbe Protected Me’
A Jewish attorney in Dnipro was spared when a Russian missile hit and destroyed his office – besides his tefillin. The man attributed his protection to his visit to the Alter Rebbe’s Ohel in Haditch on Erev Rosh Hashanah.
A Jewish attorney in Dnipro was miraculously saved after a missile strike destroyed his office during recent Russian bombings in eastern Ukraine. He had just stepped out of his three-story office building in the city center to meet a business associate when a missile hit directly, leaving the structure in ruins.
Returning to the wreckage, he was surprised to find his tefillin intact. The tefillin, which were given to him by the local shluchim, are the same pair he puts on every day in his office – including that morning.
Speaking with Shliach Rabbi Levi Engelsman, with whom he learns on a weekly basis, the lawyer ascribed his safety to the Alter Rebbe, whose Ohel he visited before Rosh Hashana.
“I traveled five and a half hours each way, on rough and broken roads, to reach the holy gravesite in Haditch. I prayed there and gave a donation for the place’s upkeep, and asked that I and my family not be harmed by this terrible war. I am sure that the tzaddik protected me and wrapped me in his merit so that I wouldn’t be harmed by the missile.”
The city of Dnipro, home to the Menorah Center, the largest Jewish complex in the world and the heart of Jewish life in Ukraine, was once again targeted in a wave of attacks involving ballistic missiles and Iranian-made drones.
