“This past year, during my last year in high school, we made a ‘Derher club’ which really took it to the next level. We made lavish programs, and even girls that usually are ‘not the type’ sat in bed into the night reading their Derher magazines.”

When Mrs. Batsheva Deren of Yeshiva Schools Girls High School in Pittsburgh, PA, heard about the idea of making a Derher Club for her high school students, she was intrigued but didn’t anticipate the remarkable impact it would have.
Well, she was in for a surprise. The Derher Club has grown from a small gathering to a highly anticipated and widely impactful monthly event.
“At the beginning of this year, our principal introduced us to the idea of Derher Club,” said one of the student leaders of the program.
“We decided to create a monthly program where together, we would read a pre-selected article from that month’s Derher that is relatable and inspiring for high school girls, and use a game-setting to review the content of the article afterwards. Derher also provided us with a monthly Kahoot game!”
Mrs. Deren raved about the Derher Club, saying: “The Derher Club has become a popular monthly event that the girls enjoy so much. In addition to fun activities such as sushi making, and ice cream making, there is amazing toichen.”
“It has been incredibly successful and always draws a nice crowd. The Derher Club has created a real chassidishe atmosphere in the school.”
Every month, more and more girls participated. By the end of the year, the girls who joined most programs were treated to a boating trip and received special Derher Club sweatshirts.
“Overall, the programs really motivated us and created such an inspiring and positive environment to learn and appreciate the rich content of Derher. It was so rewarding and we plan to continue it in our school,” the student leader concluded.
The Derher Club has indeed become a beacon of inspiration and excitement, leaving a lasting impact on all the students involved. Another school principal recently shared with us, “It’s incredible what the Derher club has been able to accomplish this year. The girls now have the opportunity to see and appreciate the Rebbe’s broad vision and how relevant it is for us nowadays. I see the effect it gradually has on them and I marvel…”
