The Loewenthal’s Jewish outreach presents unique challenges; the overwhelmingly secular Danish society saved many Jews during WWII, but the Jews in Copenhagen face pressure to hide their Jewishness. There are also serious security concerns that require around-the-clock synagogue security.
Lamplighters: Stories From Chabad Emissaries On The Jewish Frontier is producing a series of moving, beautifully produced, sound-rich and often surprising stories of Chabad shluchim and the people they inspire in every corner of the world.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your podcast focusing on the work of the Rabbis and Rebbetzin of Copenhagen’s Chabad. My husband and I made a point of walking to the House on Shabbos on our last day in Copenhagen last month (July, 2025) What a joy to have a short visit with Rabbi Levy, sharing challah from the Shabbat lunch just ended, hearing the story of the building’s former use, and of course seeing the beautiful little shul attached. The images of the beautiful doorpost mezuzzah, two security guards posted outside, and the heart-wrenching Hostage posters plastered to the outside walls have taken a special place in my heart.
We formerly spent time with the wonderful family of Rabbi Yossi and Mushky Kivman at Chabad of Mansfield (Massachusetts) before we moved an hour away. Now we are blessed to know the growing, young family of Rabbi Levi and Mushky Lezell of Chabad of the South Shore in Duxbury, MA.
Wishing you an early Shanah Tovah!
