After launching for the summer and helping hundreds of Crown Heights families, the CommunaShare lending service is adding a new item to their inventory to help families on their travels.

The CommunaShare lending service, established just in time for the 5781 summer season, offers community members various popular travel items that they can borrow for free for a trip or a vacation.

A project of the 93rd Shul, CommunaShare was founded after a number of shul members realized that there was a great need. “We noticed that on our grade WhatsApp, people are almost always looking to borrow items that are used seasonally for travel,” one of the organizers told Anash.org. “Many people don’t like to buy items they use infrequently, but when they need such an item for a few days, they have nowhere to turn to.”

So a few members of the shul got together and founded CommunaShare, a solution not only for their shul, but for the wider Crown Heights community.

Despite opening with only three items, namely bicycle racks, YOYO strollers and rooftop cargos, CommunaShare became a hit in the community. Hundreds of Crown Heights residents, and many out-of-towners as well, benefitted from the items offered.

After receiving much positive feedback, organizers decided to go ahead and add a 4th item to their inventory.

“There was high demand for a travel system, which we did not offer at the time,” one of the organizers told Anash.org. “So in time for the Yom Tov season, we introduces the option to borrow the YoYo stroller with an adaptable car seat, so travelers can enjoy the double benefit of a travel stroller with a car seat included.”

Organizers tell Anash.org that they are still planning to add more items in the coming months.

“CommunaShare is looking to expand and help serve the community’s needs,” they said. “In due course, we will be adding other ‘series’ as well, covering other common needs.”
