Rabbonim, lay leaders, and philanthropists from all factions of Chicago’s Jewish community gathered for an uplifting Purim Koton farbrengen led by anash rov Rabbi Boruch Hertz.

Seated on the head table were (L-R): Mr. Sam Wasserman, a leader in the kashrus world; Mr. Eric Rothner, noted philanthropist; Rabbi Boruch Hertz; Rabbi Shaoul Hamaoui, respected Sefardic rabbi; Dr. Yigal Yahav; and Rabbi Moshe Markowitz.

The farbrengen was arranged by Dr. Yahav, who is very active in all of Chicago’s Jewish institutions. He hosted the farbrengen, which had over 200 attendees throughout the night. Rabbi Hertz farbrenged for hours about the special power of Purim Katan.

“Purim Katan is even more powerful than Purim itself,” shared Rabbi Hertz, as he repeated parts of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s Purim Katan farbrengen in Russia and from the Rebbe’s maamer Atah Tetzaveh. “The main ingredient necessary in our avoda today is simcha. Simcha is the key to uplifting every other part of our avoda and is the ingredient that binds and unites all the aspects of what a Yid works on.”

The singing was led by two musicians who played niggunim throughout and set the atmosphere. The uplifted balebatim and community members left inspired and touched.

“The farbrengen was so unifying for the kehila,” said Rabbi Hertz. “Many made a hachlata to find a Yid to put on tefillin or to give a mezuza in honor of Eretz Yisroel. And of course, everyone left with a firm resolve in their hearts to feel the simcha that will bring about the final Geulah.”
