In an impressive display of student leadership and academic achievement, Lubavitch Girls High School (LGHS) recently concluded an intensive Chidon, in which they studied, discussed, applied, took quizzes on 10 sichos of the Rebbe.
“The success of this program exemplifies our core belief that every student has the potential to excel in her own unique way,” said Dean Rabbi Baruch Hertz. “What makes this initiative particularly special is that, like all LGHS extracurricular activities, it was led by our students, for our students.”
The program, which was overseen by Mrs. Rivka Gittel Resin, offered three distinct tracks to accommodate different learning styles and interests: an “Iyun” track for advanced text study in Hebrew and Yiddish, a “Content” track focusing on comprehensive understanding, and the “Creative” track allowing students to express their learning through visual arts.
Students studied in pairs using custom textbooks provided by Sichos in English (SIE) and participated in informal farbrengens to discuss practical applications of their learning. The program, led by Mrs. Rivka Gittel Resin, culminated in two major events: the schoolwide game show during the Yud Tes Kislev celebration and an elegant dinner at Bucktown Chabad.
The Creative track particularly showcased the diverse talents within the student body. Under the guidance of artist Mrs. Sharon Goodman, participants transformed their understanding of the sichos into striking visual masterpieces in her professional studio.
During the schoolwide game show on Yud Tes Kislev, these young artists took center stage between quiz rounds, presenting their artwork with pride and confidence. After unveiling works worthy of professional framing, each student articulated how her piece represented her personal interpretation of the studied texts.
Principal Mrs. Sarah Wineberg praised the artistic presentations: “Watching our students stand before their peers with such confidence was amazing. They demonstrated not only their understanding of complex concepts but also their ability to translate that knowledge into meaningful artistic expression.”
The dinner at Bucktown Chabad program included an auction, where the currency was hachlatos based on what they’d learned, and the prizes were seforim so they could further their studies even more!
As a reward for their hard work, eight students (selected by both raffle and as a reward for excellence) will travel to New York, visiting the Ohel and Crown Heights.
Reflecting on the experience, many of the girls shared how special it was for them to engage with this challenge and then succeed beyond their own expectations, each one finding their own path to success.
