Dozens of members of the Chevra Kadisha of Agudas Chassidei Chabad gathered on Friday, the 15th of Kislev, to follow the age-old tradition of fasting, reciting selichos and reading from the Torah on this specific date.

The members of the Chevra Kadisha, who fasted the entire Friday, began the auspicious day in 770 with a heartfelt Shacharis that included special selichos and reading of the Torah portion of Vayechal Moshe, customarily read on fast days.

Following the customs of the day, the group then headed to the Old Montefiore cemetery where tefillos unique to the occasion were said.

After Shabbos, the members gathered for a beautiful seuda held at the Razag Ballroom. Each participant also received a special memento containing halachos and minhagim related to death and mourning, along with historical facts about the connection of the Rebbeim to Chevra Kadisha throughout the centuries. The event also paid tribute to Rabbi Yosef Wilmowsky a longtime member of the Chevra Kadisha.
