A celebratory sefer being printed honor of the Rebbe’s 120th birthday will collect every sicha and farbrengen delivered by the Rebbe in honor of Yud Alef Nissan over 42 years.
The unique sefer is the brainchild of a group of talmidim hashluchim from Westchester Yeshiva, who were looking for a special way to mark Yud Alef Nissan this year.
“The idea came up during a farbrengen held on Yud Alef Cheshvan, exactly 6 months to Yud Alef Nissan. The talmidim hashluchim of Westchester sat together and farbrenged, discussing what would be a proper gift for the Rebbe’s birthday,” one of the organizers told Anash.org.
After consulting rabbonim and mashpi’im, the group decided that a fitting gift would be to publish a beautiful sefer collecting all the Rebbe’s sichos delivered on Yud Alef Nissan in their original Yiddish. The sichos, which until now had only been published and republished in a old typeset, would be fully retyped, giving the sichos a clear formar and making them easy to learn.
“The new sefer will make it possible for bochurim, or anyone to relive Yud Alef Nissan by the Rebbe, by learning the farbrengens and sichos,” they said.
After starting the project, the organizers realized that it would be a much bigger undertaking than anticipated. Besides for retyping hundreds of pages, countless typos had to be corrected as well.
“To help us finish in time, we started networking and working with the bochurim in Morristown and 770, and with yungeleit in kollel to work on this massive project. We even have a number of mesivta bochurim helping us as well,” they said.
The final product will be beautiful both inside and out, with professionals hired to work on the layout, design and cover. The sefer will be available for bochurim and anash to purchase before Yud Alef Nissan.
As the sefer nears completion, the organizers are turning to the public to ask for help funding the momentous project. Donors who give $500 will have a half-page dedication printed in their name, and for $1,000 one can purchase a full page dedication. The full sefer can be dedicated for $5,000.
