With sadness, we regret to inform you of the passing of Reb Meyer Barber, a”h, of Sydney, Australia. He was 86 years old.
Reb Meyer was a young boy from Galicia, Poland, who survived the war far from home, in frozen Siberia. He was there together with the gaon the Tchebiner Rov and his son-in-law Rav Boruch Shimon Schneersohn. After the war, he moved to Australia where he married – tblcht”a -Esther New.
In Sydney, he was one of the founding baaleibatim of the Yeshiva community and was a close talmid of Rav Gedalia Hertz, who was rov there from 5715-5723/1955-1963. Years later, they became mechutonim, when their grandchildren married.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, and his children, Yitzchok – Sydney, Yanky – Crown Heights, Laya Slavin – Sydney, and Miri Gestetner – Sydney.
The levaya will take place in Sydney on Wednesday local time with kevurah at Rookwood Cemetery.
