On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu lit the eighth Chanukah candle at the Prime Minister’s Office in Yerushalayim, joined by a delegation of shluchim.
Accompanying the Prime Minister for the kindling were the director of Tzach in Eretz Yisroel, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Aharonov, accompanied by: Rabbi Shimmy Segal, shliach to the Knesset; Rabbi Mendy Ofen, shliach to the IDF; Rabbi Ohr Ziv, shliach to Katamon and Rabbi of the Prime Minister’s Office; and Rabbi Ariel Lemberg of Tzach.
At the event, the Prime Minister shared his thoughts on Sydney and his admiration for the Rebbe’s shluchim:
“The Chabad community and all the people of Israel went through a great tragedy in Sydney, at the hands of despicable murderers, who murdered them because they were Jews, and only because they were Jews. But our spirit has not fallen and will not fall. I saw this both among the shluchim, and in all the Chabad Houses that were already harmed in the past.
“It did not bring down our spirit, but on the contrary. I saw the strengthening and the mobilization to action of bringing the people of Israel closer, everywhere on the face of the earth. I did not check whether there is one in Antarctica, but I know they are working on that too.
“But I say from the depths of our hearts – we also share in the grief, but we also see the greatness and are more determined than ever to ensure the eternity of Israel. We do this here, the Chabad shluchim do this across the world, and we will win. We are winning – and we will continue to win.”
